This is a one of a kind #9 Kentucky Coal Necklaces. This coal is layered as if still in the mountain. Very unusual texture very artistic. The coal has been stabilized and coated for its protection. It is still delicate should not be submerged in water, placed in fire, or banged around. The solid piece of coal is set in a sterling silver setting and embedded in the center in a sterling silver setting are raw real natural diamonds. It hangs on an 18" sterling silver chain. Hope you enjoy the cool twist of diamonds and coal. The Kentucky legislature passed a resolution in the summer of 1998 to make coal the official State Mineral of Kentucky. This coal came from the Parkway mine which is an underground mine located near the city of Central City in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. The mine extracts coal from the West Kentucky #9 coal seam. #9 coal was made famous by the song 16 Tons. Here are some of the lines: I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine I loaded sixteen tons of #9 coal And the straw boss said "Well, a-bless my soul" You load sixteen tons, what do you get Another day older and deeper in debt Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go I owe my soul to the company store
